Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Cell is an integral part of the innovation process and the innovation value chain of this institution. Several patents, copyrights and industrial design applications have been filed based on the innovations done in VISTAS. The Cell has been involved in the organisation of several IPR awareness and implementation programmes. Thus, a key objective of this Cell is to integrate innovation with the education which consequently enhances the quality of thinking. The centre focuses on the propagation of a culture that impacts the values and respect for IPR. The centre is further involved in ensuring speedy and accurate identification and protection of innovations arising out of the research work carried out not only for VISTAS, but also supports for the academic institutions and micro research centres. Also, the centre focuses on bridging the gaps between the industry and the academia for technology sharing and mutual research.
VISTAS involved in the process of setting up structured processes to identify knowledgeable faculty and highly talented students and encouraging filing of IPRs and patenting the products/technologies for the benefit of the Institute and thereby to society at large. Centre for IPR proved its strength on research and innovation by filing more than 126, patents in a short span of time.
The Centre for IPR had collaborated with various government and private agencies to reinforce the new ideas and of innovators in technology and science. Recently, the Centre for IPR cell is recognised as Patent Information Centre of Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST). Funds were received from TNSCST (Approval Order No: TNSCST/PIC/2021 Dated 6/5/2021) for creating awareness about IPR and to provide region wise facilitation of IP filings.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Govt. of India, The Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India Project had provided Rs, 71,44,000/-. (Approval order No. DIT/IPRl7.1/75/2009, Government of India, Department of Information Technology, Patent & IPR Division, R&D (IT) Group) for the Centre for IPR. With this grant, the Centre for IPR had facilitated the process of patents.
